Brazil has hosted the World Cup previously; it was back in 1950 when the Brazilians lost to Uruguay in the final. The Brazilian football team, however, are undoubtably the most successful football nation in the history of world soccer.
Of course, we have some way to go yet before we see the beautiful game being played in the beautiful country, as South Africa will be hosts for the 2010 World Cup. Despite this, there is already a mouth watering World Cup anticipation and an unmistakable pride, not to mention a flurry of activity in Brazilregarding the 2014 World Cup.
There are 19 cities very eagerly hoping to host some of the games, at least 7 of them will be bitterly disappointed as it’s highly likely that only 12 venues will be approved.
We will keep you updated on the chosen cities for the World Cup; Brazil 2014, but here are the hopefuls; Sao Paulo, Fortaleza, Belem, Recife and Olinda, Rio de Janeiro, Florianopolis, Belo Horizonte, Curitiba, Campo Grande, Rio Branco, Salvador (2 venues), Brasilia, Porto Alegre, Goiania, Maceio, Manaus and Natal.
Brazil Serie A
Série A (Brasileirão) is where the giants of Brazilian league soccer hang-out – in fact, 20 of them. Brazil Serie A has the usual playing format of each team playing one home and one away game – there are 2 primary objectives; to win the Brazilian Serie A title and to avoid the drop into Serie B – At the end of the season 4 teams drop into the oblivious 2nd tier; Serie B.
Brazil is a massive land mass, and a flight to an away game can take a few hours, this gives home teams a distinct advantage with partisan crowds and regional differences all contributing to home advantage. However, the teams that tend to dominate Serie A are the Rio and Sao Paulo football clubs
Here are the 2008 contenders: Sao Paulo, Santos, Flamengo, Fluminense, Cruzeiro, Gremio, Porto Alegre, Palmeiras, Botafogo, Atletico Mineiro, Vasco da Gama, Internacional , Atletico Paranaense, Figueirense, Sport Club Recife, Nautico Capibaribe, Goias, Vitória, Ipatinga and Portuguesa.
