Sao Paulo (São Paulo Futebol Clube)

Current (2007) Serie A Champions, São Paulo play out of the obvious; city of the same name; Sao Paulo.

As one would expect from one of the top 3 football clubs in Brazil they have tasted quite a bit of success both domestically as well as on the international stage.

Let’s take a brief look at their triumphs:

3 World Club Championships (under 2 guises)

3 Libertadores Victories

5 Brazilian National Championships (Serie A/First Division).

Sao Paulo play at the most famous , Morumbi Stadium, or more correctly; Estádio do Morumbi,(Estádio Cícero Pompeu de Toledo)  the ground has a current capacity of around 80,000 (used to be well over 100,00 – but has been reduced due to safety concerns).

In terms of establishing the football club as an official outfit, Sao Paulo were 3 decades behind the first Brazilian established teams, but in terms of success they have more than made up for it, as is summarized above.

Sao Paulo colours are interesting in the sense that the red, black and white represent the peoples of not only Sao Paulo , but the whole of Brazil. Red, as in Native Anerican, White as in European and Black as in African.Sao Paulo are easily the premier team in the countries former capital, not only because of their success but because they attract more investors and are an attractive team to play for regarding being a shop-window, as it were for Brazilians who have ambitions of playing for the elite European Clubs, particularly the best clubs in the English, Italian and Spanish leagues.        FREE Brazil Serie A Football Ratings
