Atletico Paranaense (Clube Atlético Paranaense)

Paranaense, or Clube Atlético Paranaense play out of Curitiba in the State of Parana , South Brazil. Their nickname is Furacãoin , which in English means Hurricane, this nickname originated way back in about the late 1940s. That is not to say they don’t blow a strong wind today, as they did win the Serie A Championship as recent as 2001 and have bagged the Campeonato Paranaense; State Championship no fewer than 21 times.
Atletico Paranaense have a fierce rivalry with another Serie A team, in the shape of Coritiba – both teams are based in Parana State. It’s debatable who has the most local support, but recent statistics would suggest Paranaense comes out on top – just!
In recent years it has become fashionable and potentially lucrative for Brazilian teams to form partnerships with soccer teams from the U.S.A Major Leagues, so it was no surprise to see Paranaense, in 2006, team up with Football Club Dallas.
The FC Dallas deal will of course help both clubs, and the main objectives are; to share resources; including free player loans, to swap ideas about training, coaching and scouting, to foster and establish youth football schemes and to consolidate and learn from each others business practices, such as; marketing, sponsorship deals, corporate entertainment and ticket revenue, not to mention broadcasting rights.
They play at Arena da Baixada which has recently been renamed; Kyocera Arena in tandem with the Japanese company of the same name, who purchased a stadium sponsorship deal.
